Featured Sight: Sayzie Carr

Sayzie Carr Check out the new sight for artist Sayzie Carr. You will see four galleries of Paintings, read About the Artist, and be able to Contact Sayzie about her work.

Sayzie has devoted herself entirely to painting since 2005 when she closed up shop in New York City and found a home in the country. Presently Sayzie, her husband, and their dog divide their time between Lakeville and New York City. Sayzie finds the tranquility and beauty of the country very conducive to her work. Her paintings are all about nature and about being surrounded by trees, flowers and seasons and everything that grows.

A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words

We see time and time again how complex stories can be told with just a single still image... Or that an image may be more influential than a substantial amount of text. But often in the wide world of web sights, I find that just one image does not tell the whole story or that it is too difficult to pick just one image when several great ones are available. This is when I think of setting up either a random image displayer or a slide show. Here I will describe how a random image displayer works and show you three web sights with this feature for you to visit. In next month's issue of Web Sight News, I'll talk about slide shows.

A random image displayer is a program that randomly selects an image from a folder (containing many images) for displaying on a web page. The result is that each time you visit a web site using a random image displayer you will see a different image. This is a great way to both portray many aspects of an organization or a wide range of work. And It also keeps your web sight fresh and interesting to visit.

Throughout this article you see the home pages of three web sights I have designed that use a random image displayer. For each web sight you have a glimpse of two different images being displayed. Now I invite you to go to the web sights to see what image will be displayed upon your visit! Clicking on a screen shot will bring you to the web sight.

Thinking Strategically About Your Web Sight

To begin thinking strategically about your web sight, I propose we look at the following elements:

  • Traffic Quality
  • Site Layout, Usability & Design
  • Product Offering
  • Market Strategy

Ideally, these elements work together, if any one of these is missing, the desired results may not be achieved. Desired results or "conversions" are things like a contact, download, or sales from your web sight. And identifying how efficiently your web sight turns visitors into prospects or customers is called the "conversion rate". Wikipedia defines Conversion Rate as follows:

"In Internet marketing the conversion rate is the percentage of unique visitors who take a desired action upon visiting the website. The desired action may be submitting a sales lead, making a purchase, viewing a key page of the site, downloading a whitepaper, or some other measurable action".

As this is just a start, in future issues of Web Sight News, we'll look more at tracking conversion and then at some practical ways of increasing conversion.
